He teaches from an immense knowledge base with empathy, wit and an uncanny ability to understand a student's struggles and thought process.

David Dornan graduated from the University of Utah (B.F.A., 1976) and Arizona State University (M.F.A., 1982) and taught at the University of Utah art and art history department from 1982 to 1999.  He resigned the faculty position to paint full time but mentoring emerging artists as an important part of sharing his experience and expanding his own knowledge.

David Dornan lives and works in Helper, Utah.

He focuses mainly on still life motivated by a passion for the beauty of light, color and mark making.

"I try to “build” the forms out of paint. Colors, textures and shapes change repeatedly during the process, which is largely abstract. I then add light theory to these abstract marks to create a visual equivalent to the objective world. My work is most satisfying to me when there is a meeting ground between total chaos and absolute control."

He teaches generously sharing his knowledge, his own process and passion for art. He seeks to inspire the art spirit in his students and has an unmatched enthusiasm in the classroom.
